Albany, N.Y. — A new superintendent at the top of the New York State Police brought a significant shakeup among the leadership positions in the agency, removing at least four of the people running the core departments of the police service.

The shakeup was first reported by the Albany Times Union, and is seemingly the largest one-day change in leadership in the history of the agency. Gov. Kathleen C. Hochul appointed the new superintendent, Steven G. James, at an event at the NYSP Troop G barracks in Latham, Albany County, where James had spent most of his law enforcement career.
